Chocolate mousse is one of those desserts that feels fancy but is surprisingly easy to master. With just a handful of ingredients, you can whip up a dessert that’s both light and luxurious, perfect for dinner parties, holidays, or simply when the chocolate craving strikes. This recipe uses whipped cream and egg whites to create that signature airy texture, while melted dark chocolate adds depth and richness.

Ingredients
200g (7 oz) good-quality dark chocolate (60–70% cocoa)
3 large eggs, separated
50g (¼ cup) granulated sugar
240ml (1 cup) heavy cream, chilled
1 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Optional for serving: Whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or fresh berries
Preparation
Melt the ChocolateBreak chocolate into pieces and melt gently over a double boiler or in the microwave in 20-second intervals. Stir until smooth. Let cool slightly.
Whip Egg WhitesIn a clean bowl, beat egg whites with a pinch of salt until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar and continue beating until stiff, glossy peaks form.
Whip the CreamIn a separate bowl, whip chilled heavy cream with vanilla until soft peaks form.
Combine Egg Yolks & ChocolateStir egg yolks into the cooled melted chocolate until fully combined.
Fold in Egg WhitesGently fold the beaten egg whites into the chocolate mixture in 2–3 additions, being careful not to deflate the mousse.
Add Whipped CreamFold in the whipped cream until just combined and the mousse is smooth and airy.
ChillSpoon mousse into serving glasses or ramekins. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or until set.
Serve & EnjoyTop with whipped cream, chocolate curls, or berries for an elegant finish.
